- Description:
- Lewis Addition Drummond was the 4th president of Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and Professor of the History and Theology of Evangelism. The service opens with a word of prayer from Dr. George Braswell (00:00-02:14). President Lewis A. Drummond gives a word of greeting for the day of convocation for the inauguration of the Center for Great Commission Studies, and he introduces the seminar leaders and plenary speaker, all the conference attendees, and the board of trustees (02:15-06:25). Dr. Wayne McDill briefly speaks about the importance of evangelism, the Great Commission, and missions for Southern Baptists and Southeastern Seminary, and he presents a theme for the convocation service of “Heart for the World” (06:26-11:25). Drummond reads from Matthew 28:16-20, and he begins his sermon with his first point that the fulfilment of the Great Commission comes through the power of the Holy Spirit (11:26-18:17). Drummond’s second point is that God calls us to make disciples and not decisions, and he says that the power of the gospel message is Jesus Christ and his defeat of death in the resurrection (18:18-26:36). Drummond’s third point is that we are to baptize converts into the community of God and teach them the Scriptures, and he says that God desires believers to know and be like Jesus Christ (26:37-32:35). Drummond’s final point is that we need the presence of God, and he says God’s presence must reach the ends of the earth (32:36-37:15). Drummond concludes his sermon with a Great Commission litany (37:16-39:56). Dr. Delos Miles closes the convocation with a benediction (39:57-40:33).

- Description:
- Adrian Rogers was the pastor of Bellevue Baptist Church in Memphis, TN and former President of the Southern Baptist Convention. The service begins with President Paige Patterson announcing a prayer request for a staff member’s son, and one of the trustees, Jerry Holcomb, gives a word of prayer (00:00-02:19). Patterson welcomes the Southeastern Board of Trustees to campus, and he gives a shofar to two trustees who are rotating off the board (02:20-06:46). Adrian Rogers is introduced as the chapel speaker (06:47-08:23). Rogers begins his sermon by reading from 1 Corinthians 1:18-25, and the theme of his message is about the true gospel of Christ (8:24-11:26). The first point of Rogers’ sermon is about the method of God’s salvation, and he states that the cross is the only way to salvation, a method that slays human boasting (11:27-26:08). The second point of Rogers’ sermon is about the calling of the saints through the cross of Christ, and he reads 1 Cor. 1:26-30 to state that God has chosen the weak and foolish in the world to confound the wise (26:09-36:00). Rogers’ final point of his sermon is about the method of God’s servants and how it undercuts human pride, and he reads 1 Cor. 2:1-5 to state that the Christian’s aim as servants of God is to proclaim Christ and him crucified (36:01-40:37).

- The Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary Catalogs are published by Southeastern Seminary to provide information for each academic year. The earliest catalog was published in 1951. Catalogs were sometimes published in connection to the Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary Bulletin and most contain information for one academic year, though some cover multiple years. The catalogs provide an academic calendar and a brief introduction to the seminary, its facilities, and the community. Further information includes curriculum and class offerings, details regarding admissions, and registers of students, faculty, staff, trustees, and graduates. Subcollections for the 1990s and 2000s include CASE catalogs for the college.

- Description:
- John William Eddins, Jr. was Professor of Theology. The chapel begins with a Bible verse, sharing of prayer requests, and a prayer (0:00-3:20). A responsive reading from Psalm 95:1-7 is then read together (3:27-4:30). Dr. Eddins introduces his message “On the Freedom Not to Be God” from Genesis 2:15-25 (4:37-7:12). He emphasizes that people often feel they need to be God, while the truth is they are freed not to be God, but to be free with God (7:15-10:15). Dr. Eddins notes that when people sin, they free themselves from God and then take on the responsibility to be their own inadequate gods (10:15-14:50). He presents Jesus as the answer to have freedom not to be God and instead gain freedom for and with God (14:51-20:15). Chapel is closed in prayer (20:15-20:36).

- Description:
- Thomas Albert Bland was Professor of Christian Ethics and Sociology. There is first a reading from the Bible about God’s faithfulness followed by prayer (0:00-3:31). Dr. Bland begins by reading Luke 9:28-36 about the Mount of Transfiguration (3:31-5:42). He then reviews Peter’s acknowledgement of Jesus as Lord just before this passage, but his ultimate denial of Jesus’s claim that Jesus would soon die. Dr. Bland states that today it is still hard for some to accept the reality of Jesus’s mission on the cross (5:42-8:42). He then discusses the Mount of Transfiguration and how on the mountain God commanded them to listen to Jesus (8:42-11:28). Dr. Bland says that this call to listen to Jesus is the same command to us today in a world where many different voices cry out (11:28-14:57). He then tells the story of Dr. William Louis Poteat, previous president of Wake Forest College, and his call for people to look for Christ (14:57-17:04). Dr. Bland gives one last charge for the audience to take up their cross and follow and listen to Jesus (17:04-22:56). He then gives a closing prayer (22:56-23:28).

- Description:
- Lewis Addison Drummond was the 4th president of Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and Professor of the History and Theology of Evangelism. Introductory music is played (0:00-1:24). The service begins with prayer (1:24-2:44). Further music is played (2:44-5:23). A welcome is extended to the students in the 40th year of the seminary, and recognition is given to the presidential advisory council and the faculty (5:29-8:16). There is a reading of 2 Chronicles 7:12-14 and James 5:7-8 (8:25-10:10). The Citation of Faculty Excellence is presented to Professor Thomas Albert Bland (10:21-13:30). Using the concept of renewal from 2 Chronicles 7, Dr. Drummond tells the story of Yale University’s history and spiritual awakenings that took place as an illustration of what God can do at educational institutions (13:32-19:04). He asks what people really want and directs the question to the students as they begin their educational journeys. He suggests that what each person desires is an encounter and renewal from God (19:04-21:51). He then provides insight into what this renewal may look like. Spiritual renewal would be brought by the Spirit of God, bring awareness and sensitivity to sin, offer forgiveness, raise awareness of the necessity of complete commitment to God, and produce a life of genuine ministry with the gifts of the spirit (21:51-29:30). He emphasizes that all of these things are for God’s glory (29:30-30:30). In order to see this renewal Dr. Drummond says the audience must seek God’s movement and talk about God’s work in each other’s lives (30:30-32:56). He then gives a final challenge of spiritual renewal and prayer to the seminary (32:56-35:34). Dr. Drummond concludes with a story of Winston Churchill’s “Never Give in Speech” and calls the audience to hold onto God until renewal is seen (35:34-38:03). A final presentation of music is given (38:08-42:30). Convocation is closed with prayer (42:30-43:55).

- R. Logan Carson was Professor of Theology. Carson opens his sermon with a word of thanks to the faculty, and he tells a story of the Lord’s provision (00:00-02:55). He gives a word of prayer (02:56-03:36). Before reading his passage, Carson says that the theme of his message is on the will of God being done in a believer’s life (03:37-05:40). He exegetes Luke 22:39-42, and he focuses on Jesus aligning his will to the Father’s will (05:41-12:26). He continues to verses 43 and 44 to allude to Jesus’ finished work on the cross (12:27-16:40).
