- Description:
- The service begins with prayer (00:00-02:39) and the reading of Luke 24:44-49 (02:40-04:06). There was no introduction for the speaker, Dr. John Watson Shepard, but he was Professor of Christian Ethics at Seinan Gakuin University in Fukuoka, Japan. In his message, he intends to go over the “why, what, and how” of our global mission task (04:07-07:07:22). The “why” of missions is simple from Scripture: the Lord has commanded and sent us, and the burden in us to share the good news of what has happened to us in Christ with the unbelieving is heavy (07:23-10:57). The “what” of missions, on one hand, is simply the gopsel; however, on the other hand, “how” we communicate that gospel across cultures can be difficult (10:58-17:45). Remarking further on the “how” of missions, we are witnesses and testify to that experience; we need to know the culture and language of the people we are among, but ultimately salvation belongs to the Lord (17:46-22:28). He ends in prayer (22:29-23:17).

- Description:
- The service begins with the reading of a poem (00:00-00:40) and prayer (00:41-04:45). 2 Corinthians 5:11-17 is read and discussed briefly (04:46-07:00). There is a brief time of singing and worship (07:01-11:19). There is no introduction for the speaker, Dr. Robert Cook Briggs, but he was Professor of New Testament Interpretation at SEBTS. The notion of a personal testimony in conjunction with 2 Corinthians 5:17 is discussed (11:20-15:34). The “newness” of the Christian situation is Paul’s emphasis, and it can evoke different kinds of responses (15:35-18:00). In Paul’s new life, anxiety, worry, and distress all played a crucial role by causing him to cast himself onto Christ and other Christians (18:01-26:37). He ends his time with prayer (26:38-27:00).

- Description:
- The service begins in prayer (00:00-03:06), and the speaker, R. Paul Caudill, was introduced as the pastor of the First Baptist Church of Memphis, TN, according to his educational and ministerial background (03:07-05:00). He says in this missionary address that the greatest danger that we face today is the blindness caused by materialism, and he gives examples of this from various countries (05:01-16:42). His word of hope comes from the Apostle Paul in Romans 1:14-15 (16:43-17:51). His first word has to do with acknowledgement of our debt which we owe to the world, namely, that the gospel should be proclaimed among the nations, withstanding the great price we must pay if we are to go to them (or not) (17:52-30:57). He mentions some modern missionary statistics (30:58-38:24). He closes with a challenge for his audience to actually obey Jesus’s command to “go” to the nations with the gospel (38:25-49:00), and he ends his time in prayer (49:01-51:10).

- Description:
- The service begins with a reading (00:00-00:53) and a prayer (00:54-05:04). Another short prayer follows by John E. Davis (05:05-05:22). No introduction was given for the speaker, John E. Davis, but he was a student at SEBTS. He outlines two presuppositions of seminary education (05:23-06:02). First, the questions we are raising at SEBTS are but hollow and intellectual gymnastics if they are foreign to the common man’s questions (06:03-13:49). Second, the gospel is a totally consuming dynamic and not a moral philosophy nor a legal code (13:50-23:53). He quotes Philippians 3:12-16 (23:54-24:46), and he ends his time in prayer (24:47-25:24).

- Description:
- The service begins with the reading of Psalm 24:1-2 (00:20), and an introduction is given for the Reverend Robert C. McClernon, pastor of Watts Street Baptist Church in Durham, NC. From Springfield, Missouri, he received a BA degree from Drury College in Missouri and a Bachelor of Divinity degree from the Federated Faculty of the University of Chicago. He also served as Associate Minister at Myers Park Baptist Church in Charlotte, NC for nine years before coming to pastor at Watts Street (00:43-01:32). The service continues with a responsive reading of Psalm 23 (1:33-2:34) and prayer afterward (2:35-4:51). Robert McClernon begins his message with the prayerful reading of Romans 5:1-5 (04:52-05:52). McClernon intends to humbly share with his listeners some of his own understandings of what makes us who are we to be as ministers of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Unless the clergy indicates to those whom we serve that God has called us to offer all of ourselves to Him in service, we cannot hope anyone else will do this after us. Firstly, God has called us to be theologians who love Him with our minds (05:53-09:58). Secondly, God has called us to be theologians who have ears and can minister by listening well (09:59-11:57). Thirdly, God has called us to have realistic self-conceptions, understanding that we must remember our humanity and weaknesses in our ministry as “professional” clergy and so protect ourselves from becoming “holy phonies.” According to McClernon, the gospel must become incarnate in us so that others see it as genuine, powerful, and effective for them as well (11:58-26:35). He then ends the service in prayer to God (26:36-27:54).
