Both the fountain & rose garden were given by Dr. & Mrs. Mackie in memory of their parents. When Mackie Hall was being renovated (it had been closed for several years) Mrs. Mackie-Lake was contacted for a contribution for the renovations. She refused as her "gifts" had been replaced or stored. "Cont" "; CDI-01-0285: his photograph has a note on the back that reads, "She said her father told her that she should pay attention to the way "gifts" were treated. Then she would know how "her gifts" would be treated after her death. The water fountain given by the Mackie's was taken out of storage & placed in front of Stealy but this gesture did not change Mrs. Mackie-Lake's mind.
