Truman S. Smith was Instructor in Pastoral Care and Director of Student Activities. He shares the story about King Solomon and how he asked God for wisdom soon after he became king of Israel. George H. Shriver, Jr. was Associate Professor of Church History (1959-1973). Shriver reminds the students that Christians should love God and be known for their love for God. He encourages them that God gives them their identity when they place it in Him.
Arthur B. Rutledge was the Director of the Vision of Mission of the Home Mission Board (North American Mission Board). Dr. Scoggin introduces the speaker from 0:00-1:22. There is special music from 1:25-7:00. Dr. Rutledge speaks from 7:10-38:48. Rutledge states that the call to follow Jesus is the call to sacrifice comfort.
B. Elmo Scoggin was Professor of Hebrew and Old Testament for thirty-four years. Dr. Scoggin shares with the students that our gospel must be based on our experience and be convicted and convinced of the gospel claims. He encourages them to share the wonderful story of God's redemptive work in Christ. Dr. Scoggin preaches from 0:00-11:07. Closing music is played from 11:14-11:57.
Joe Wright Burton was Secretary of the Family Life Department of the Baptist Sunday School Board. The service begins with an introduction to the speaker from 0:00-1:45. Dr. Burton preaches a message titled "Sickness in the Family.” Burton uses the story of the prodigal son and encourages the students to bear one another's burdens. He speaks from 1:48-22:33.
Bob Davis was a student at SEBTS. Davis opens the service in prayer from 0:00-1:44. He preaches a message titled "Christ in You, the Hope of Glory" from 1:47-16:14. Davis shares stories in the Bible and modern examples of people desiring to see God. He closes by reminding those in chapel that God is the loving redeemer of our world. This service was organized by the Student Coordinating Council.
Edward Allison McDowell, Jr. was Professor of New Testament Interpretation and Chairman of the Chapel Committee. Dr. McDowell opens the service in prayer from 0:00-5:04. McDowell preaches the rest of the time from 5:13-16:51. Dr. McDowell makes an appeal to the students, faculty, and all those in attendance to support the chapel services for the school year. He notes that chapel is like a thermometer which registers the spiritual warmth of the seminary. He also adds that chapel helps stimulate renewal of faith in God.
Olin Trivette Binkley was the second President of Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He begins the service by opening in a word of prayer from 0:00-1:00 and preaches the rest of the time. Dr. Binkley preaches on the principles of the faith. His source text was Philippians 3:7-8. He notes that ministers should set forth an authentic, life-giving lifestyle such as Christ.
George Raymond Beasley-Murray was the principal of Spurgeon's College in London. The service begins with a prayer from 0:52-1:47. Dr. Binkley reads Ephesians 4:1-24 from 1:56-5:24. The chapel performs a song from 5:34-9:13. Dr. Beasley-Murray is introduced from 9:27-12:16. He preaches from 12:23-53:21. His message was titled "The Great Commission in a Secular Age." He states that the heart of the gospel is the service of Christ. A closing prayer is made 53:40-54:37.
