5. SEBTS Chapel - Chevis F. Horne October 6, 1988
- La description:
- Chevis F. Horne was Visiting Professor of Preaching. Dr. Horne is announced as Chapel speaker (0:00-0:16). A hymn is played (0:17-2:41). The choir sings an anthem (2:42-3:32). A word of prayer is followed by another hymn (cut) (3:33-5:35). The Scripture reading is Matthew 25:31-46 (5:36-8:18). The choir sings a song of worship (8:19-11:06). Dr. Horne focuses on the Scripture reading in his message, titled “Surprised by Judgment,” with an emphasis on Jesus as a servant and as a King (11:07-14:15). He finds it surprising how Jesus identified Himself as a servant on earth despite His place on the right hand of God, a place of honor and power (14:16-15:16). He is further surprised at how many poor people there are in the world whose presence he cannot escape now or at the time of Judgment (15:17-18:17). Dr. Horne talks of his surprise of the social questions that will be asked on the day of Judgment (18:18-20:30). He then discusses that believers are truly saved by grace and display graciousness in their lives (20:31-21:43). He also is surprised by Jesus identifying Himself with the poor: their pain is His pain (21:44-26:24). Dr. Horne hopes that those who are going to be pastors would “love, care for, minister for, and identify with their people” (26:25-27:05). He closes with a word of prayer (27:08-27:47). A hymn ends the service (27:48-30:10).

9. SEBTS Chapel - Chevis F. Horne September 11, 1986
- La description:
- Chevis F. Horne was Visiting Professor of Preaching at Southeastern Seminary. The service begins with organ music (0:00-4:44). There is a moment of prayer (4:45-5:33). There is a Scripture reading from I Corinthians 12:12-18 (5:34-7:12). Chevis F. Horne is introduced as the chapel speaker (7:13-8:15). The choir sings a song of worship (8:16-11:50). Horne introduces the topic of his presentation as being a servant of the church (11:51-15:27). He speaks of Paul traveling, preaching the gospel, and ensuring there was a stable church in each place he traveled (15:28-18:24). Horne believes the New Testament believes the church is important because of the extensive metaphors in which the church is used, some of which are the body of believers (18:25-31:38). Horne says it is a privilege to be a servant of the church (31:39-35:11). He tells the congregation to flee from the way of power (35:12-36:45).

10. SEBTS Chapel - Chevis F. Horne September 10, 1986
- La description:
- Chevis F. Horne was Visiting Professor of Preaching at Southeastern Seminary. The service begins with a prayer (0:00-2:13). There is a Scripture reading from John 13 (2:14-4:30). The guests in chapel are welcomed and encouraged to recommit themselves to Christ (4:31-5:22). Chevis F. Horne is introduced as the chapel speaker (5:23-6:11). The choir sings an anthem (6:12-8:57). Horne speaks about Jesus acted as a servant because it is difficult for one to forget an act of true servanthood (8:58-12:13). He speaks about the uniqueness of Christianity in that the Savior came in the form of a servant (12:14-14:47). Horne says that it is natural to choose a form of power rather than of a servant and that power is most dangerous in the hands of religious people (14:48-18:50). Horne argues that it is the pastor’s responsibility to build the congregation’s self-esteem because the people will rely on him (18:51-26:53). He shares from the book of John to show the importance of a minister’s responsibilities (26:54-30:08). He closes the service in a word of prayer (30:09-30:55).
