This student handbook was produced by Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary for use at the extension site located at the First Baptist Church of Woodstock in Woodstock, Georgia. The handbook covered material such as security and emergency information, the building layout, and other information of interest to students travelling to the extension site.
This book contains the early 19th century membership roll of First Baptist Church (Charleston, SC). The church was originally constituted in Kittery, Maine in 1682. In 1696 the church moved to Charleston, SC becoming one of the earliest Baptist churches in the American South. This membership book was produced under the leadership of Basil Manly who served as pastor of First Baptist from 1826-1837.
File "FBCC_MB_001_A" contains a front to back scan of the book. File "FBCC_MB_001_B" contains a back to front scan and rotation of the book for readability. Original book returned to First Baptist Church (Charleston, SC) after digitization by archives staff in 2019.
Records of the Primitive Baptist Church at Pine Forest which was founded in Virginia on October 15, 1898, with David Sumner as its first pastor. The record book indicates meetings were typically held at least monthly and includes church minutes and member information. This Sepher Torah scroll contains the first five books of the Old Testament (Genesis - Deuteronomy) in biblical Hebrew. The scroll was created in Fürth, Germany ca. 1760 and is 91 feet 2 1/2 inches long, approximately 27 1/2 inches wide, and consists of 35 panels of parchment.
This scroll (TS.KBL.19.25) was donated to Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary by Ken and Barb Larsen, founders of God's Ancient Library ( https://www.godsancientlibrary.com/). During the reign of National Socialism in Germany, the scroll was buried in the cemetery of a Jewish synagogue to prevent its capture by the Nazi government. The scroll was rediscovered in Germany in the early 2000s and subsequently purchased by the Ben-David family from Israel. The Larsens purchased this scroll from the Ben-David family.
